Builder's plastics are Damp Proof Membrane (DPM), Damp Proof Coarse (DPC) sheeting and Temporary Polythene Sheets.

Damp proof membranes are made from high quality recycled plastic. Intended for use under the solid concrete floors to prevent the rise of moisture or damp through structure flooring. They are used on walls to isolate the wall from the exterior and interior contaminations. Damp proofing membranes have high compressive strength. they are extremely flexible and have an elongation break of over 40% therefore they are able to deal with structural movement thus providing longer lasting damp proofing solutions. They have a long life expectancy.
Damp proof membranes are made from High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) or Polypropylene. The membranes are cut to size and fixed to walls externally and floors to prevent damp transferring to interior. Damp proof membranes are impervious to moisture and moisture vapour and have high compressive strength. They are also extremely flexible, can cope with structural movement, which ensures your damp proofing lasts for decades.
Damp Proof Course (DPC) is the layer that would prevent moisture from moving up the walls from the ground level and into the living area. This problem is commonly known as rising damp. Without a DPC, water will rise up through capillary action, up through the wall to create damp spots on internal walls, and eventually lead to mould and worse - make plaster pop and crumble.
Damp proof course (DPC) is a barrier of impervious material built into a wall to prevent moisture form moving to any part of the building. The DPC is built into base wall brickwork and is laid into the brick wall approximately two courses (two bricks) below the lowest timber member. The DPC is run around the perimeter of the building over the concrete foundation and attached to the wall frame just above the top plate. It is angled down to the brickwork where it is embedded just below the weep hole.

These sheets are waterproof and tear resistant and provide an excellent protective barrier within building environments. Simply unroll, tape edges if required.
